Ubud has hundreds of places offering massage, from riverside resort spas to a room behind a shop. Prices differ by five times for treatments that sound the same on the sign. This page explains what the common treatments actually are, what a fair local price looks like, and how our own studio in Pengosekan works — so you can choose well, here or anywhere else in Ubud.

Which massage should you choose?

Full menu with facials and every scrub is on the prices page. Prices are per person, in IDR, with no service charge added.

What a fair price in Ubud looks like

Around Ubud you will normally see three price levels:

Local studiosIDR 75,000–200,000 per treatment. Simple rooms, experienced hands, cash or QRIS. This is where most repeat customers go.
Tourist-street spasIDR 250,000–450,000. Nicer signage in the centre of Ubud, often the same therapists as the local studios.
Hotel & resort spasIDR 500,000 and up, plus 15–21% tax and service. Beautiful settings, and you pay for them.

Rina Massage sits in the first group: a family studio, five trained therapists, prices from IDR 75,000 — several guests write that it is “about half the price of town”.

Couples and groups

Many small studios have one or two therapists, so a couple takes turns and one person waits. With five therapists we treat two people side by side in the same room, and a family or a group of friends within the same hour.

Same treatment or different ones — the price stays per person. For three people or more, message us a day ahead.

You will be asked how strong you like the pressure and whether any area hurts — say it plainly, the therapists adjust. Towels, a sarong and disposable underwear are provided, and the linen is changed for every guest. There is a shower for scrub treatments.

Afterwards there is a place to sit for a while; ask and we will make you a ginger tea. Payment is at the end — cash, QRIS or card.

Quietest hours: 9:00–11:00. Busiest: around 11:00–13:00 and early evening.

Questions people ask

How much does a massage cost in Ubud?

Local studios charge IDR 75,000–200,000, street spas in the centre 250,000–450,000, resort spas 500,000 and up plus tax. Our full menu starts at IDR 75,000 for 30 minutes.

What exactly is a Balinese massage?

A full-body oil massage combining long flowing strokes, palm and thumb pressure and gentle stretching. Pressure is light to medium — a good first massage.

Deep tissue or deep healing — what is the difference?

Our Deep Healing Massage is the strong-pressure treatment: Balinese technique with deeper point work, skin rolling and reflexology elements. If you would normally ask for “deep tissue”, this is the one.

Do I need to book?

Walk-ins are welcome, and outside the busy hours one person is usually taken straight away. One is still the easier way: we normally confirm within 5–15 minutes and hold the time — no deposit. Worth doing around 11:00–13:00, in the early evening, or if you are two or more people, when we may already be full.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. Towels, sarong and disposable underwear are provided, and the linen is changed for every guest.
